Lunenburg County Adult Learning Opportunities
INSTRUCTOR

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week starting September 9, 2024
Part-time: Short term programs up to 10 weeks in duration
Basic Digital skills, Communications
CAEC (Canadian Adult Education Credential) replacement for GED

Position Scope
Under the direction of Employment Solutions Society, working closely with community partners, and applying good practice principles, the Instructor is responsible for the effective delivery of the Adult Learning Program curricula, and for the evaluation and documentation of progress of learners in the Adult Learning Program.
Follow good practice principles of adult education, including:

Provide quality instruction experiences for learners that are based on the interests of the learners, develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and increases self-esteem
Deliver programs which respect each learner’s unique identity
Establish individual learning plans at the beginning of the program
Conduct appropriate formative and summative assessments to ensure learners are appropriately placed in programming and to monitor progress towards meeting their identified goals.
Ensure goals and learning plans relate to the participants’ educational, career and/or personal goals
Prepare learning plans for each learner, use his/her life experiences as material for learning, and accommodate different learning styles
Work collaboratively with participants to meet learning goals

Solid understanding of assessment, processes, tools and resources
The instructor provides assessment for classes and follow up with attendees on progress, is prepared to assist high needs students and actively researches assistive technology, assists with learner service delivery and will facilitate workshops and/or deliver full programs.
The instructor will document learner information in LaMPSS

Qualifications

University degree in Education with at least two years' relevant experience working with adults in an educational setting or 5 years practical experience in teaching adults will be considered
Completion of the Nova Scotia Tutor and Instructor Training and Certification Program an asset
Proven coordination, organizational, computer and administrative skills
Excellent communication and facilitation skills
Demonstration of strong interpersonal and team-work skills
Effectively use information and communications technology, conduct research
Excellent understanding of adult and inclusive education principles
Adhere to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making and respect for diversity
Commit to professional development and career self-management
Knowledge to apply equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility approaches in instructional design
Familiar with various assistive technologies an asset
Valid Nova Scotia Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle
Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check

Salary Range: $26.93 - $31.52 per hour based on experience and education

I am writing this comment to thank you guys for putting on the job fair that helped my daughter Julia obtain her first job. Danielle set her up and introduced her to many of the vendors. She introduced her to several contacts giving her the confidence she needed to come out of her shell and talk to prospective employers. She assisted her with developing a proper resume and set her up with the school liaison Mike Girard, who works directly with students from Parkview Education Centre. Mike made Julia feel comfortable and competent in the skills she had to offer and was highly impressed by her resume. Julia successfully applied for several jobs and spoke with many employers. She was contacted by Fresh Cuts for an interview and starts her job today. Had Danielle not recommended the job fair to us she likely would not have made contacts on her own nor obtain employment. I am very thankful for having a program like this in our community and the wonderful employees at your company that we had the pleasure of dealing with. Would highly recommend this group of individuals to anyone looking for employment.

I would like to express both my appreciation and thankfulness to Employment Solutions and the role they have played in helping me re-enter the workforce after being retired for 5 years and relatively new to Bridgewater. My journey with them all began when I was looking for a service that offered assistance in redoing my resume. After some searches on Google, I found the site for Employment Solutions and contacted them to make an appointment.
From the first phone call to the first appointment, I was welcomed and knew in my heart, I was at the right place. I had been assigned to a Case Manager to begin the process and worked closely with her as they began to build my file; and even when there was transition to a new case manager, the transition was smooth and I was well taken care of.
I currently work with Danielle Wile who is my Case Manager; however, I have also received encouragement and excellent service from Charmaine at the front desk and Maria who taught and assisted me in building a new resume. She also gave me the tools I needed to get my name out there, job search tools and even how to properly apply for jobs online to ensure my resume was reaching the employers.
It's been an incredible experience; and, I am now back to work in a role that suits me well. Danielle was so helpful and encouraging regarding this job placement and she continues to check in to ensure things are going well in my new role. She has managed my case with excellence, ensured I was registered in a First-Aid course, has helped me with networking within our area and helped us get a grant that was very beneficial to my employer. Now that is excellent service and the only cost to me was my personal commitment to engage in a service that was very beneficial to me.
