Employment Status: September 2026 to June 2027  Monday – Friday varied hours per week depending on programs being delivered

Salary: $26.93 – $31.52 per hour, based on education and experience
About the Position
Employment Solutions Society is seeking a motivated, compassionate, and learner-centred Adult Learning Instructor to join our NSSAL-funded Community Learning Network.
The Adult Learning Instructor will provide high-quality adult learning opportunities to individuals seeking to strengthen their literacy, numeracy, digital, communication, employability, and essential skills. The Instructor will work collaboratively with learners to identify their goals, develop individualized learning plans, deliver engaging instruction, assess learner progress, and support participants in achieving their educational, employment, and personal goals.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of adult education principles and a commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, accessible, and welcoming learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Adult Learning Instructor will:

• Provide learner-centred instruction that recognizes and builds upon each learner’s existing knowledge, skills, interests, and life experiences.
• Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans in collaboration with learners.
• Deliver adult learning programming in accordance with approved program curricula, organizational policies, and Nova Scotia School Adult Learning (NSSAL) requirements.
• Provide instruction in areas such as literacy, numeracy, communication, digital skills, employability skills, and other identified adult learning needs.
• Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, interests, and levels of readiness.
• Create a positive learning environment that promotes confidence, participation, independence, critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning.
• Conduct assessments to identify learner needs, establish appropriate learning goals, and monitor progress.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of learner attendance, participation, assessments, learning plans, progress, and outcomes.
• Document required learner and program information in LaMPSS and/or other approved systems.
• Provide appropriate follow-up and support to learners regarding their progress and achievement of learning goals.
• Identify barriers to learning and work with learners and community partners to develop appropriate strategies and referrals.
• Support learners who may require additional assistance, accommodations, adaptive learning strategies, or assistive technology.
• Research and incorporate current adult learning resources, technology, instructional tools, and best practices.
• Facilitate information sessions, and community learning activities as required.
• Establish positive working relationships with community organizations, employers, educational institutions, government partners, and other service providers.
• Participate in team meetings, case discussions, professional development, program planning, and community outreach activities.
• Contribute to program evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
• Ensure all services are delivered in a manner that respects learner confidentiality, dignity, privacy, and individual rights.
• Follow organizational policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and applicable program standards.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:

• A university degree in Education.
• Demonstrated experience teaching, tutoring, facilitating, or supporting adult learners.
• Strong knowledge of adult education and learner-centred instructional practices.
• Experience developing individualized learning plans and monitoring learner progress.
• Knowledge and experience with assessment practices and tools.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and documentation skills.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and the ability to effectively use information and communication technologies.
• Ability to research and evaluate educational resources and incorporate technology into instruction.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and culturally responsive learning practices.
• Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical decision-making.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.

Assets
The following would be considered assets:

• Completion of the Nova Scotia Tutor and Instructor Training and Certification Program (NSTICP).
• Experience working within a Community Learning Network or other community-based adult learning environment.
• Experience delivering NSSAL-funded adult learning programming.
• Knowledge of LaMPSS or other government-funded program reporting systems.
• Experience supporting learners with barriers to education, employment, or participation.
• Experience working with individuals with diverse learning needs.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and accessible instructional practices.
• Experience delivering digital literacy or technology-based learning.
• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation.
