We are presently recruiting to fill two (2) Summer Student employment positions for our Bridgewater and Liverpool Centres.

​Information Resource Specialist “Summer Internship”
Summer Student Employment Opportunities
37.5 hours/week - Full time/term positions

Centre hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.   
 
Primary Work Locations:  Bridgewater Centre – 1 position and  Liverpool Centre – 1 position
 
These Summer Internship positions will provide meaningful work experience for students with goals of becoming employed in the field of Career Development Services. Students must be graduating from high school and entering post secondary in the fall of 2022, or be a student returning to post secondary education. Interns may be of any age, as long as you are a student enrolled in post-secondary education in the fall of 2022.
 
This opportunity may be of particular interest to students enrolled in human services, education, social work, social sciences or humanities programs, but is not limited to these areas of study.
 
Position Summary:
Information Resource Specialists (IRS) address client’s information needs. They help clients find the most relevant resources and guide them in developing the skills to use these resources. They understand research methods for gathering information and utilize a variety of mediums to share information based on the users’ needs. IRS staff have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of community resources, government programs and work search strategies and can assess clients’ information needs and refer to the appropriate resources and supports in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:
IRS support the front-end services in a Nova Scotia Works office by:
  • Greeting visitors by phone or in person
  • Sharing information about our services as well as referrals to community programs and services that will aide them in their next steps
  • Book appointments with appropriate staff
  • Assist with promotion of programs and services (this could include creating promotional materials and sharing with community via phone, email or social media postings)
  • Offering specialized services to youth through 1-1 support or group workshops
 
In order to fully understand the services of Nova Scotia Works, the Student Summer Interns will also:
  • Provide assistance to Employer Engagement Specialist by identifying new or existing employers we have not partnered with and explaining our services
  • Work alongside our Student Liaisons to create a youth event in August. This will include research, planning and running of the event (youth focus groups, job fair)
 
 Required Knowledge

Supervision and Terms
  • Student Interns will be mentored and supervised by the Information Resource Specialist and report to the Operations Manager
  • Industry training will be offered through the Nova Scotia Career Development Association and the Centre for Employment Innovation during the summer work placement
  • Travel occasionally for work purpose (travel allowances provided)
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Possess a clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Term 12 – 16 weeks; based on your graduation or end of semester, anticipatory start date for the position can begin as early as May 3, 2022 with an end date of September 2, 2022.
 
Salary:   $15.00 / hour
