We are a registered non-profit society dedicated to assisting job seekers find employment and employers find suitable workers. We have been serving job seekers and employers since 1994 and in 2016, we became a Nova Scotia Works – Employment Assistance Services Centre and received operational funding from the Province of Nova Scotia. We partner with government, community agencies and local employers to deliver our inclusive employment services. We help individuals with career planning, job searching and on-the-job development, and help employers with recruitment, planning and HR support. Our staff assist individuals and employers navigate a range of no cost programs and services that will aid in their success.

Our Information Resource Specialists are the face of our society, Emily welcomes and provides the information and resources needed by individuals and employers to access our employment assistance services and programs in our Liverpool Centre. As well, Emily is also one of our Workshop Facilitators and provides instruction and guidance to session participants through a process of co-creation, active dialogue, and working together efficiently to help reach a particular goal. During each Workshop and Webinar, participants gain a better understanding of the skills needed to lead to meaningful employment.

Our School Liaisons work with students Grades 7-12, and their families, to explore entering the workforce. They offer access to the latest provincial and national labor market trends, help students find co-op and job shadowing opportunities, provide one-on-one and group employment info sessions in North Queens Community School, Parkview Education Center, New Germany Rural High School, and Forest Heights Community School.

Our Employer Engagement Specialist works closely with employer partners to assess their needs and develop action plans. He also works with community and government partners to identify and plan for economic development opportunities in our region. On the ground level, he assists employers with recruitment, retention, and marketing of their employment opportunities and offers support with access to wage funding programs which assist their business growth.

Our Employment Support Practitioner covers 3 distinct areas with individual job seekers; employment maintenance, skills enhancement and job search. This can include helping individuals craft resumes and cover letters, better their job search skills, and prepare for interviews. Support is provided to our clients during the transition to employment and, when necessary, provide follow up strategies to better understand employer expectations related to their on-the-job responsibilities.

Our Case Managers/Career Development Practitioners (CCDP) job is to collaborate with job seekers in creating a strong return to work action plan that teaches the job seeker the skills and abilities needed to move successfully towards their employment plan. Case managers help with job search, career decision making and accessing funding programs for work experience, retraining and self-employment.

Jennifer Meister, MEd, BEd, BA
As an instructor within the Lunenburg County Adult Learning Opportunities Program, Jennifer works with adult learners to develop learning plans and set goals in reading, writing, and math. She also helps learners reach their employment, educational, or personal goals. She delivers training in basic computer skills, essential skills, workplace communications and math.
